I often wondered why fancy dresses from this time period often had a zipper front, because zippers are generally considered quite casual. Simone told me it was because zippers had just been invented and they wanted to show them off, hence this rather adorned zipper.
yeah, i think zippers were invented sometime in the early aughts, or something, but they started to be manufactured and available more widely starting in 1926 or something...
